Springtime and sunshine at the Horse & Groom

It’s April and the sun is out, so it’s the perfect time to tell you about the garden at the Horse & Groom. Surrounded by the West Sussex countryside, it’s a great place to enjoy an award-winning beer and a bite to eat.

Talking of getting outside, I’m sure some of our regular mountain bikers will be taking advantage of the good weather and hitting the local trails. The Goodwood Spring Challenge may have been put back to the summer, but there are still plenty of forest tracks, climbs and descent crossings to get to grips with. We’re looking forward to seeing them for their usual post ride wind down.

If you like something a little more sedate in your outdoor pursuits, West Dean is holding one of its Saturday Garden Lectures on 16 April. The talk is titled Crûg Farm Plants – extraordinary tales of modern day plant hunting and will tell the story of the owners’ incredible travels around the world in search of elusive specimens. West Dean is close by, so the Horse & Groom is the ideal place for a post-lecture drink and dinner or even a base for a weekend break – details on our renovated barn accommodation here.

Of course, you don’t have to go to any events. The beautiful Kingley Vale is on our doorstep and the walks are free, as are the stunning views of Chichester. The cathedral, the coast, Goodwood – you can see it all!

If you like views, you might like this: the South Downs Planetarium is putting on a couple of great events shortly. On 12 April, it is hosting First Flights in Space, while All Aboard – A Tour of the Planets takes place on 15 April. You can drop into the Horse & Groom afterwards for some out-of-this-world dinner chat!
